Recently a man hole was constructed in front of our apartments in Velachery, Chennai for metro water pipeline work. A big 10 feet deep 4*4 feet square hole was dug. Then a circular chamber was constructed in the center. Rest of the space was filled with debris and some cement work on top.
This hole acts as a great RWH system for entire street. All the rain water from higher side of the street enters into this hole and nothing passes beyond this hole. This happened during last Saturday and Sunday heavy day time rains in Chennai.
Now, I am thinking if government plans big RWH systems in all streets and in parks, water will not enter from one street to another and entire rain water can be harvested. This has to be done in addition to the individual house RWH system as we see lot of water flowing in streets even after RWH for terrace water.
